Gothic 1 Remake Skills and Trainers Guide
Fact-checked: July 23, 2026
Gothic 1 Remake uses trainer-based progression: gain Learning Points from levels, then find an NPC who teaches the skill and pay any Learning Point and ore cost. Many advanced lessons are locked behind quests, access, or faction membership.
How training works
A new level gives you Learning Points rather than a menu full of automatic upgrades. Those points remain unspent until you reach a trainer who teaches the attribute, weapon discipline, crafting skill, or utility ability you want.
Many lessons also cost ore. The same ore pays for weapons, arrows, lockpicks, and supplies, so progression has two budgets: Learning Points and currency. Save both for a defined build instead of buying every lesson as soon as it appears.
Main skill groups
- Attributes: Strength, Dexterity, and Mana. The community trainer database reports a cap of 200 for each.
- Weapons: one-handed, two-handed, bow, and crossbow training improve access to each combat path.
- Magic: Mana and magic-circle progression depend on trainers and faction access.
- Thief skills: lockpicking and pickpocketing open alternate routes to loot and quests.
- Crafting and gathering: alchemy, smithing, and hunting convert access and materials into long-term value.
- Movement and survival: Acrobatics, Diving, Climbing, Fist Fighting, and Sneaking are taught separately.
Plan around trainer gates
Trainer location is only the first requirement. Some NPCs teach immediately, while others require camp membership, a completed quest, a delivered item, or entry to a restricted area. If a dialogue option is missing, check the trainer's gate before assuming the skill is unavailable.
Faction choice matters most for specialized combat and magic. The official game site confirms that aligning with one of three factions influences ability and playstyle development, and the trainer roster shows how that plays out in practice.
Early Learning Point priorities
- Choose a primary damage route before buying several unrelated weapon skills.
- Raise the attribute your current weapon actually uses.
- Buy utility skills when they solve a repeated problem, not only because the trainer is nearby.
- Keep an ore reserve for the lesson itself and for the weapon, lockpicks, arrows, or ingredients the skill needs.
- Check your next faction gate before investing in a weapon discipline that your route may not support.
Attribute caps versus character level
Searches for a Gothic 1 Remake max level often mix two different systems. The remake does not use an artificial hard character-level cap such as 50 or 60. Instead, finite quest and combat XP creates a practical endpoint that varies with completed quests, enemies, chapter spawns, and mutually exclusive content.
For build planning, keep character level separate from the reported 200-point caps for Strength, Dexterity, and Mana and from Master weapon proficiency. One exact maximum-achievable level cannot be promised for every route.

Frequently asked questions
How do skills work in Gothic 1 Remake?
Leveling awards Learning Points, but it does not automatically improve a skill. Find the appropriate trainer, meet any quest or faction requirement, and pay the requested Learning Points and ore.
What is the Gothic 1 Remake max level?
Current post-release guides report no artificial hard character-level cap. Finite quest and combat XP creates a practical maximum that varies by route; Strength, Dexterity, and Mana are separately reported to cap at 200.
Which skills should I learn first?
Commit early points to the damage stat and weapon skill used by your planned build. Utility skills are valuable, but spreading scarce early Learning Points across every category can delay the power needed to earn experience safely.
Can every character learn every skill?
Not on the same schedule. Some lessons require a quest, item, castle access, or faction membership. Two-handed mastery and advanced magic are especially path-dependent.
