Gothic 1 Remake Strength Build: One-Handed & Two-Handed Guide

Fact-checked: July 25, 2026

Strength unlocks conventional melee weapons, but the attribute alone is not a complete build. Start with a practical One-Handed route, train its mastery separately, and move into Two-Handed only after your faction rank and trainer access support it.

Strength build priorities

  • Choose One-Handed for a flexible early opening.
  • Raise Strength toward the requirement of a weapon you can obtain in your current route.
  • Train One-Handed or Two-Handed mastery separately from Strength.
  • Delay a Two-Handed specialization until the required faction rank and trainer dialogue are available.
  • Keep ore available for training and the next weapon upgrade.

One-Handed opening

Current trainer data documents Scatty as a Chapter 1 fighter trainer in the Old Camp, while the other camps also provide routes into basic melee training. One-Handed is therefore the safer recommendation for an early Strength build.

This is a progression recommendation, not a claim that One-Handed always produces the highest endgame damage. Availability and handling matter more than a theoretical late-game weapon during the opening chapters.

Two-Handed specialization

Verified current guides tie later Two-Handed training to advanced faction routes: Thorus for the Old Camp path, Lee for qualifying Mercenaries, and Cor Angar for qualifying Templars.

Plan Two-Handed as a specialization rather than assuming one camp is mandatory. Confirm promotion, chapter, and dialogue gates before reserving all Learning Points for it.

Current STR weapon requirement examples

  • Axe — 23 Strength, 29 listed Edge damage.
  • Light Two-Hander — 50 Strength, 60 listed Edge damage.
  • Two-Hander — 66 Strength, 81 listed Edge damage.

Do not publish a fake damage formula

The current data clearly supports Strength as a conventional melee requirement, but a fixed final-damage formula is not sufficiently verified. Do not assume every Strength point adds exactly one final damage after armor, proficiency, criticals, and difficulty are applied.

Use the milestones to plan equipment access, then test real combat performance with your mastery tier and current patch.

Frequently asked questions

What does Strength do in Gothic 1 Remake?

Strength is the main requirement for conventional melee weapons such as swords, axes, maces, and staffs. One-Handed and Two-Handed mastery remain separate training paths.

Should a Strength build start One-Handed or Two-Handed?

One-Handed is the safer early route because Chapter 1 training is available. Two-Handed is better treated as a later specialization tied to advanced camp ranks and trainers.

Which camp is required for a Strength build?

No single camp is mandatory for the general Strength route. Later Two-Handed trainers differ by faction: Thorus, Lee, and Cor Angar support qualifying advanced paths.

What Strength milestones are useful?

Current item data lists examples at 23 Strength for Axe, 50 for Light Two-Hander, and 66 for Two-Hander. Treat them as requirement examples, not guaranteed chapter acquisition milestones.
