Gothic 1 Remake Dexterity Build: Bow, Crossbow & DEX Guide
Fact-checked: July 25, 2026
Build around a real ranged weapon breakpoint. Dexterity unlocks bows and crossbows, while Bow and Crossbow mastery are separate investments. Start with Bow for the practical early route, then consider Crossbow after its later trainer access opens.
Dexterity build priorities
- Choose Bow as the practical early mastery route.
- Raise Dexterity toward the requirement of a weapon you can actually obtain.
- Train Bow separately; meeting a Dexterity requirement does not grant weapon mastery.
- Treat Crossbow as a separate, later transition instead of your only opening strategy.
- Reserve ore for arrows, equipment, and trainer costs.
Bow first, Crossbow later
Cavalorn is documented in the current data as a Chapter 1 bow and hunting trainer, giving ranged characters a faction-flexible opening. Crossbow uses Dexterity too, but it has its own mastery track.
Scorpio is documented as teaching Crossbow later, after leaving the Old Camp and moving near Cavalorn. This supports a Bow-first route without claiming that every crossbow is unavailable before Chapter 4.
Current DEX weapon requirement examples
- Rider's Bow — 14 Dexterity, 24 listed Point damage.
- Light Crossbow — 30 Dexterity, 60 listed Point damage.
- Army Bow — 49 Dexterity, 64 listed Point damage.
- Demon Bow — 70 Dexterity, 85 listed Point damage.
- Crossbow of War — 80 Dexterity, 120 listed Point damage.
How to use the milestones
These values come from current community game-data records. They are equipment requirements, not promises that a weapon is available in a specific chapter or route. Confirm availability before spending all remaining Learning Points.
Exact final-damage scaling is not sufficiently verified for a fixed public formula. Compare actual weapon performance in-game rather than assuming base damage plus Dexterity equals final damage.
Avoid legacy-build traps
- Lockpicking is independent from Dexterity in the Remake.
- Pickpocket success formulas are not sufficiently verified for a fixed DEX target.
- Do not split early Learning Points between Strength and Dexterity without a specific hybrid weapon plan.
- Do not call Crossbow training an early guarantee merely because a low-requirement crossbow exists in the item data.

Frequently asked questions
What does Dexterity do in Gothic 1 Remake?
Dexterity is the main requirement for bows and crossbows in the current weapon data. It unlocks equipment milestones; Bow and Crossbow mastery are trained separately.
Should a Dexterity build start with Bow or Crossbow?
Bow is the practical early route because Cavalorn is available as a Chapter 1 bow trainer. Reliable Crossbow training appears much later through Scorpio, so plan Crossbow as a later transition.
Does Dexterity improve lockpicking?
Lockpicking is a separate skill in Gothic 1 Remake. Do not spend Dexterity solely to improve lockpick durability or puzzle tolerance.
What Dexterity milestones are useful?
Current item data lists examples at 14 DEX for Rider's Bow, 49 for Army Bow, 70 for Demon Bow, and 80 for Crossbow of War. These are requirement examples, not guaranteed acquisition points.
